Prof Ricardi’s and Dr Sugie’s testimonial on the Radixact System with Synchrony

Hear from two renowned clinicians on how they’re using the Radixact System with Synchrony technology to deliver more precise, more personalized treatments to treat a wider range of cancer patients.

Transcribed Text: Hello my name is suzanne winter and i’m the chief commercial officer and senior vice president of research and development at acuray and i’d like to welcome you to accurate’s virtual booth at astro 2020. we have continuously led the way in making advanced technologies and treatments more efficient more economical and more practical the incredible experience of all the sites equipped with a cyberknife system and the synchrony solution in the world is now available on the rad exact Tomotherapy system when accurate introduced synchrony technology for the rad exact system last year we described how synchrony real-time motion synchronization would enable clinicians to expand the treatment capabilities of the rad exact system so next you’ll hear from two renowned clinicians on how they’re using rad exact system with synchrony technology to deliver more precise more personalized treatments to treat a wider range of cancer patients professor umberto riccardi already realizes the potential in treating lung cancer patients with radixact system with synchrony technology professor riccardi is the chairman of the radiation oncology and dean of the school of medicine at the university of turin Italy as well as the director of the department of oncology at health and science academic hospital in turin today he’s using rad exact with synchrony to deliver extremely precise long sbrt treatments with synchrony professor riccardi is now able to offer sbrt sabr solutions to the most fragile lung cancer patients with comorbidity and or poor respiratory function with no itv and limited gtv to ptv margins as small as three millimeters to preserve healthy lung tissues without the use of fiducials in most cases here’s what professor riccardi had to say about how adding synchrony technology has enhanced his treatment capabilities:

so we installed the Radixact system here in this hospital in this treatment room roughly one year ago so we started our clinical activity at the end of august 2019 so it was roughly 13 months ago and at the moment i can say that we treated more than three other patients with this system after the first year we decided to offer synchrony treatment to i mean some patients because of course when you can reduce the margin of normal lung including the treatment volume you can certainly do an important let’s say benefit to these patients because always one two millimeters less in terms of ptv meaning a larger amount in terms of cubic centimeters of course can offer you the possibility to further spare these pulmonary functions in those fragile patients that’s a very important question i mean allowing me to comment on how probably also in the future radiotherapy can become even more effective when we have the possibility to treat a small tumor in a very radical way with a very radical and curative let’s say aim and for example the early lung cancer we were talking about before are a classical example or such a consideration another important consideration evolving during the years and with the contribution of scientific research showing important contribution in terms of clinical endpoint benefit comes from the oligometastatic disease so oligometastatic disease is indeed a very importantrapidly evolving scenario where

we can confirm the clinical benefit of ablative treatment even in the context of a metastatic disease i mean two decades ago it could be a really i mean something completely incorrect to think to a role of radical treatment local radical treatment in the context of a metastatic disease right now we know that both in terms of progression of survival and overall survival benefit we are accumulating evidence that ability treatments really contribute to more important therapeutic chances to such a scenario to such an oncological scenario so hbrt means a lot and also i mean with the possibility to offer our patients a safer treatment in fewer pressures so of course makes a lot in terms of let’s say workload consideration reduction waiting list and improvement of patient compliance if we think for a while to prostatic cancer in the past i started my activity delivering a 80 gray in 40 fraction to prosthetic cancer patient right now we can offer similar results in a very safe way i mean with just a few fresh for example five russian in one week oh it’s a very difficult to say in a very few words but probably i can use words like let’s say productivity theft of course is an important issue for people responsible of the department in terms of optimization of a patient throughput the patient’s workload in terms of administrative data and of course for patients in terms of avoiding waste elite waiting list for example so productivity certainly is an important word the second word could be versatility because i guess that from the clinical point of view this system is certainly very useful in treating uh from the most complex treatment for the most complex tumor I would say to the simplest tumor and then i also would add a third word reliability because of course the reliability of a treatment system is an important component in our routine clinical was so the three magic words are productivity reliability and versatility dr sugiye completed his clinical training at the department of radiology at the graduate school of medical sciences and medical school nagoya city university after gaining clinical experience at japanese red cross nagoya dayini hospital he went on to become an associate professor of the department of radiology and nagoya city university he pursued research on radiation biology and lung cancer radiation as sub-specialties he is currently the vice director of the department of radiology at japanese red cross nagoya daini hospital which is one of the leading facilities to provide advanced radiation treatments in japan

“The radixact evolution of the tomotherapy platform is designed to maximize treatment versatility and at the nagoya daini red cross hospital in nagoya japan the radixact evolution of the tomotherapy platform is designed to maximize treatment versatility and at the nagoya daini red cross hospital in nagoya japan dr sugiye is doing just that he is using rad exact with synchrony technology to improve outcomes through conventional lung imrt and to deliver advanced lung sbrt treatments dr sugiye talked to us about how radixact synchrony is giving his practice the versatility to provide better treatments to a broader range of patients and i hope you came away with insights and inspiration from hearing how your peers are using the rad exact systems to push the leading edge of radiotherapy forward if this presentation has left you with questions or you’d like to learn more about accurate technology i invite you to visit acurae’s virtual astro booth or visit thank you and I hope you make the most of astro 2020.
