The CyberKnife® System Offers Alternative Treatment for Trigeminal Neuralgia

The Hôpital Notre-Dame du CHUM in Montreal, Canada, hosts a monthly clinic for patients with trigeminal neuralgia, a debilitating nerve disorder, that causes “electric” pain in the face. Eating, teeth brushing, shaving or simply a light gust of wind can trigger pain. In 2012, an 89-year-old male patient suffering from trigeminal neuralgia presented to the clinic with pain on the left side of his face. The patient had undergone medical treatment, most recently with oxcarbazepine, which proved ineffective and caused him to be dizzy and unstable when he walked.

The CyberKnife® System Provides an Alternative for Lung Cancer Patients

Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, Tennessee, purchased a CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System in December 2010 to develop a stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) program in its Radiation Oncology Department. The CyberKnife System included the Lung Optimized Treatment (LOT) function, which provides fiducial-free SBRT of early-stage lung cancer patients by enabling a hybrid method of spine tracking and tumor density tracking. Once the CyberKnife System was in use, the clinical team at Erlanger collaborated with referring physicians to explain to thoracic surgeons and pulmonologists — at Erlanger and other hospitals in the community — how the system could be utilized as a treatment option for their patients.

Largest Clinical Studies to Date* Support CyberKnife® SBRT for Localized Prostate Cancer

Two large prospective, multi-institutional clinical studies report excellent clinical outcomes and low toxicity in localized prostate cancer patients. These studies provide robust clinical data supporting the efficacy of the CyberKnife® System in delivering ultra-hypofractionated stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for patients with low- and intermediate-risk prostate cancer. The following table describes and differentiates these studies.

A Collection of Intracranial Cases

Established in October 2007, the Huashan Hopsital CyberKnife Center at Fudan University is one of China’s earliest facilities of its kind.

The CyberKnife® System: Bringing New Hope for Liver Cancer Patients

A 42-year-old male with chronic hepatitis B was initially diagnosed with primary liver cancer. He received radiofrequency ablation. Then an MRI revealed recurrence in front of the original lesion. The patient underwent interventional therapy in March 2012, but was hospitalized a month later when a CT showed a residual tumor and acute cholecystitis. Diagnosis was hepatocellular carcinoma, T2N0M0, Stage II. The patient was treated with the CyberKnife® System at 302 Hospital of PLA.
