Accuray Corporate Citizenship

Committed to improving lives — in all that we do

At Accuray, our core mission is to improve as many lives as possible. We not only relentlessly pursue this mission through the development and delivery of our unique and impactful technologies, but we also recognize that, as a company, our responsibilities as a citizen of the global community go far beyond our technologies. Our core mission is also central in the decisions we make as a member of the global community, as well as a member of each local community in which we operate.

Our Five Pillars

Our strong moral and ethical standards can be attributed to our core mission. We have defined five pillars of Accuray corporate social responsibility, which are aligned with the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals:

Everyone deserves the very best possible care.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being

Our innovative cancer treatment technologies allow us to provide more patients around the planet access to quality radiation therapy. Accuray solutions provide unique capabilities that are well suited for the changing U.S. reimbursement landscape, giving both Accuray customers and users the confidence to achieve the core goal of reducing the cost of delivering radiation therapies, while protecting patient safety and ensuring the very best clinical outcomes.

We do better when we all do better.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

The health of the whole is critical to the health of the individual. As such, Accuray continually works to help build and support strong communities where our customers (and their patients) live and work. To do so, Accuray encourages policies to support strong, healthy communities, including those policies covering fair-trade, fair-wage and other labor policies. In addition, Accuray’s Human Rights Policy affirms our support of and promotes the principles set forth in the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights protections set forth in the laws of the United States and the localities in which we operate.

Furthermore, Accuray is committed to supporting and protecting our employees, customers, and the communities worldwide in which we live and work. We encourage employee engagement in supporting the communities in which we operate.  Accuray has sponsored, and employees in our Morges, Switzerland office have participated in the Mahana for Kids Night Run Morges,  a local association raising funds for children with liver disease and their families, as well as ESCA Cancer Support’s Paddle for Cancer Support Dragon Board Festival,  a local non-profit that provides professional emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer.  In addition to sponsorships, Accuray employees in our Sunnyvale, California office showed their support for community causes by participating in events such as the Annual Cycle of Hope fundraising bike ride for Habitat for Humanity, the Family Giving Tree Back-to-School Backpack Drive, and the Guadalupe River Park Clean-up in conjunction with the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy. Additionally, Accuray employees in our Madison, Wisconsin office have also participated in several fund-raising activities like the Bowlin’ for Colons event with UW Carbone Cancer Center and Gilda’s Club Virtual Dine, or its yearly walk/run, which aims at providing free services for families impacted by cancer.

Accuray also strives to create safe work environments and practices that minimize recognized risk, so that all employees go home safely at the end of each day. We do this by conducting regular safety walk throughs, encouraging employees to report concerns to ensure rapid remediation, and working with employees to complete safety risk assessments for all jobs, tasks, and processes. Due to current events, we have created a COVID-19 task force to educate our employees and implement safety policies.  Accuray also promotes work and home safety by providing safety newsletters and other communications.

Embracing an equitable workplace culture for all.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

At Accuray, we are committed to a workplace where diversity is valued and every individual belongs. Our commitment to patient-focused outcomes drives an inclusive and collaborative work environment where the best ideas rise to the top — and everyone works to push such ideas forward. We believe that all employees must have an equal opportunity to grow and excel at Accuray, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital or pregnancy status, age, disability, or veteran status. We do this in several ways – by partnering with organizations like the Healthcare Businesswomen Association to offer greater mentoring opportunities and by creating a Diversity & Inclusion Committee with the intent to further develop our inclusion and diversity strategy and promote recruitment of diverse talent.

We expect all our employees to treat all individuals with respect and professionalism and are committed to diversity and fair employment practices in every aspect of our business. The Accuray Code of Conduct and Ethics, which is applicable to all employees, officers, directors, agents, distributors and contractors, has a strict anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policy. Just as critically, Accuray also works to build strong communities through our human resources values — helping our employees and their families to thrive with competitive compensation, robust benefits and a supportive, equitable workplace culture.

Creating a healthier tomorrow for our planet.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

The health of our planet is inextricably linked to the health of communities and individuals. Accuray recognizes the need to have environmentally conscious policies and investments. We continually work to reduce our carbon footprint and the overall environmental impact of our business practices. We do this most significantly by remanufacturing and recertifying more than 100 types of equipment and static materials for reuse. These items include various computers and other electro-mechanical hardware for both the TomoTherapy® and CyberKnife® platforms. We strive to be environmentally conscious in the manufacturing of our solutions through careful sorting and recycling of our process waste, including precious metals, electronics, wood and cardboard materials.

Through our pursuit of delivering highly effective treatments with greater efficiency, we also aim to guide the field of radiation oncology — and the healthcare world as a whole — down a path of greater sustainability.
